In a piece of news that came as a it of a surprise to me, I discovered that the college football world doesn’t come to a screeching halt just because Syracuse University has a bye week. It turns out all of those other schools around the country? They actually have the nerve to keep playing games. Can you believe it? Anyway, we decided to take a look at some of the more intriguing games on the docket, including in the ACC, and take an admittedly poor stab at picking the winners.

Texas Tech at 5 Baylor (Baylor -17)

Jeff: Big time shootout, but Baylor wins and covers, 52-28.

Jeremy: Baylor will win but can they cover the spread? Look for them to pull away late 45-27.

Sterling: In a game of two very potent Big 12 offenses Baylor is just too much for Texas Tech to stop. However Baylor will also struggle to stop the Red Raiders as well and this one will be closer than many expect. 56-48, Baylor.

13 Alabama at 8 Georgia (UGA -1.5)

Jeff: Home field advantage is big, but it’s hard for me to imagine ‘Bama with two losses. Tide takes it 27-24.

Jeremy: Alabama with 2 losses this early? Georgia is primed for its classic letdown. ‘Bama 31, Georgia 24.

Sterling: Alabama hits the road this week and will play between the hedges at a formidable foe in Georgia. Georgia comes ready to play and sends Alabama to 0-2 in the SEC and virtually knocks the Tide out of the playoff race. 27-24, Georgia.

3 Ole Miss at 25 Florida (Ole Miss -7)

Jeff: Florida looks like a bit of a paper tiger right now. Ole Miss romps, 42-17.

Jeremy: Florida pulled one out last week thanks to another Tennesse collapse late. After Ole Miss strugged against Vandy look for them to lay the wood 31-17.

Sterling: Our old friend Chad Kelly leads his Rebels into the Swamp for what should be their third straight SEC win. The Gators are still a year or two from truly contending in the SEC with their new staff. 45-35, Ole Miss.

21 Mississippi State at 14 Texas A&M (aTm -6)

Jeff: I feel like this one could go either way, but A&M at home gives them the edge. Aggies win 30-20.

Jeremy: Being at home gets the Aggies the win and the ability to cover. A&M 35, MSU 21.

Sterling: In another marquee SEC matchup Mississippi State travels to the state where everything’s bigger to take on the Aggies and makes one more stop to hold on. 34-31, Mississippi State.

6 Notre Dame at 12 Clemson (Clemson -1.5)

Jeff: Honestly, both teams might be a bit overrated. That said, I think the Irish pull out the win, 27-21.

Jeremy: Your heart says Clemson but your brain says ND. Rash of injuries finally catches up to the Golden Domers. Clemson 27, ND 24.

Sterling: The Irish head into Death Vally for what essentially amounts to a playoff elimination game against the Tigers. Watson shines and the Tigers get a statement win to hang their hat ongoing forward. 32- 27, Clemson.

Pittsburgh at Virginia Tech (VT -4.5)

Jeff: Pittsburgh’s a heartbreaking field goal from being unbeaten, but I still like the Hokies at home. Beamer takes it 31-17.

Jeremy: Both team have been Jekyll and Hyde this year making any prediction nearly impossible. Look for a defensive struggle with Va Tech making one less mistake: VT 17, Pitt 13.

Sterling: The Panthers head into this one without a couple of key players, but manage to sneak by a Virginia Tech squad that is surrounded by question marks after a poor performance versus ECU. The Hokies continue to slide and fall to the visiting Panthers. 27-21, Pitt.

Louisville at NC State (NC St. -4)

Jeff: My upset pick of the week. NC State is the definition of a paper tiger; meanwhile, Louisville is 1-3 but played Auburn and Clemson tough. Louisville pulls off the upset, 23-20.

Jeremy: NC State’s “Greg Schiano OOC Wild Fun Tour” comes to a screeching halt. Ville 37, NC State 30.

Sterling: Two teams that seem to be worlds apart according to their records battle it out in a divisional battle. The Cardinals should be better than record indicate but the opposite is true for the Wolfpack and will be exposed. 32-18, Louisville.

Boston College at Duke (Duke -7)

Jeff: BC has been big hard by the injury bug, and Duke is looking solid, and at home. Duke wins it, 38-14.

Jeremy: BC is down to their 5th string RB and have a passing game that Army blushes at. Duke 24, BC 10.

Sterling: The Eagles hit Tobacco Road this week and play the Blue Devils close but don’t have enough in the tank to get it done. 24-14, Duke.

11 Florida State at Wake Forest (FSU -20)

Jeff: Yes, FSU is unbeaten, but they haven’t exactly looked like world beaters. They’ll win but won’t cover. FSU takes it 27-13.

Jeremy: Wake kept it close for a half last year before being taken to the woodshed, dont be surprised if the first quarter is similar before FSU wakes up. ‘Noles 45, Wake 14.

Sterling: Without their starting QB, Wake will struggle to put points on the board as the losses start to pile up. 44-10, Florida State.

North Carolina at Georgia Tech (GT -7.5)

Jeff: The buzz is all about UNC gaining momentum, but I’m not buying it. Tech wins 35-27.

Jeremy: If you’re playing a parlay or at a sports book avoid this game at all costs. Two teams with too many questions, especially for Georgia Tech. GTech 30, UNC 28.

Sterling: Looking to prove that last week was a fluke Yellow Jackets bounce back from a tough loss to Duke against the other half of Tobacco Road in North Carolina. 38-24, Georgia Tech.
