It was already a good week for the Syracuse football team with a commitment from Ed Hendrix last week and the addition of JUCO defensive end Alton Robinson yesterday, but the streak continued today with a commitment from 3-star safety Cameron Jonas.

Jonas is a big-time prospect from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, hailing from the same high school (Dwyer) that sent Julian Whigham to Syracuse. The 6-foot-1, 187 pounder chose the Orange over offers from Florida State, Miami, Georgia, Kentucky, NC State, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, UCLA, Ole Miss, Wisconsin, and Auburn, among others.
This is a huge addition for the Orange, giving Brian Ward’s defensive backfield yet another valuable piece of the puzzle. He’s got solid speed and good athleticism, having also played plenty of wide receiver and returned kicks during his high school career in addition to his work in the secondary.
Jonas is the second defensive back the Orange have landed in the 2018 class, alongside cornerback Trill Williams. The Orange now have 14 players in this year’s class, though that number could grow sooner than later. Stay tuned.
