Syracuse forward Matthew Moyer, who just completed his redshirt freshman season for the Orange, took to Twitter today to announce that he will transfer from the University.
The past 2 years at Syracuse University has been an amazing journey.Thank you to the coaching staff for the opportunity and my teammates! Also the fans have been incredible. My family and I feel it is in my best interest to move on and explore other opportunities. #GodsPlan pic.twitter.com/E7YFvNR2VP

Moyer, the 6-foot-8 post player from Ohio, began the year in the starting lineup before injuries sent him to the bench. The rapid development of Marek Dolezaj in Moyer’s absence led to Moyer being permanently supplanted down the stretch, and he finished the year averaging 3.2 points and 3.4 rebounds as his minutes became more scarce in the later weeks of the season.
With Darius Bazley coming to Syracuse next year, there would likely have been a pretty substantial logjam at forward with Bazley, Oshae Brissett, and Dolezaj all ahead of Moyer on the depth chart, so it’s not surprising to see Moyer decide to pursue more opportunity elsewhere.
That said, Moyer is, by all accounts, a tremendous young man of high class and character. I genuinely hope everyone in the Syracuse fanbase will join me in wishing him luck and success wherever his journey takes him.
Good luck to you, Matt!
