This is a big weekend for Syracuse football with official visits, as a trio of running backs and one defensive tackle will be on campus just a couple weeks before the traditional February signing day. One of those running backs (the others being already-committed Akeem Dixon, and 4-star Mychale Salahuddin) is a new name to most Orange fans: Jarveon Howard.
Howard is a 5-foot-10, 202 pound runner (per his official height/weight listing from the New Orleans Opening Regionals) from Mississippi, who just popped up on Syracuse’s radar in recent weeks. At that Opening regional, Howard posted a laser-timed 4.55 time in the 40 and an overall score of 99.03, the 35th best overall score at the event. That score was also seventh among running backs, while his 40 time was the fifth best among all participants.
Howard holds offers from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, and Tennessee, among others, though the Orange have apparently picked up a ton of momentum in his recruitment in the short time they’ve been after him. For those who pay close attention and put stock in the 247 Crystal Ball, the Orange are suddenly favored to land the powerful, violent runner who certainly enjoys delivering hits to would-be tacklers.
Keep an eye on Howard’s recruitment this weekend, as there’s always a chance that we could be seeing a pledge at a much needed position. In the meantime, take a look at his senior highlights…
