For the second straight year, Syracuse football will be represented at The Opening. That’s because, after Tommy DeVito went for the Elite 11 Finals last year, offensive lineman Tyrone Sampson will be competing this summer. Oh, yeah, that’s right: the Orange landed a commitment from a 4-star stud today. In the words of Ice Cube, “It was a good day.”

Sampson, rated by both 247 Sports and Scout as one of the top 300 prospects in the nation and the number two center in the country, chose Syracuse while on a visit to the campus today. The Detroit native is 6-foot-3 and more than 300 pounds, and is a truly elite offensive line talent – an area Dino Babers and his staff are most definitely trying to improve in a hurry.

Sampson is the third commitment in the class of 2018, joining Gabe Horan and Trill Williams. The Orange are off to a terrific start to this year’s class, with several other big-time targets also reportedly highly intrigued by what Dino and his staff are doing. Sampson is one of the most recent elite prospects to visit campus, and fortunately the coaches were able to seal the deal.

The interior lineman chose Syracuse over offers from Louisville, Kentucky, Virginia, Minnesota, Western Michigan, and others. Make no mistake: this is one of the biggest “gets” for the Orange coaching staff in years. This is an enormous recruiting victory.
