Syracuse has already gotten commitments from a pair of talented offensive linemen in 4-star center Tyrone Sampson and Willem Froumy, the 6-foot-6 tackle who impressed the Orange coaching staff at this past Sunday’s camp. Now, the coaches will be looking to finish this group strong with another 4-star talent in Qadir White.
White would be a massive recruiting victory for Syracuse, both literally and figuratively. The Bronx native is a huge physical specimen at 6-foot-8 and 325 pounds (per his HUDL page), and one of the most sought after offensive tackles in the northeast. Syracuse has gotten verbals from a couple New York kids this cycle in Gabe Horan and Trill Williams, and it would make a big statement to keep White – ranked by Scout.com as the 24th best tackle in America for 2018 – close to home at Syracuse.
The Orange obviously have strong competition for the Cardinal Hayes standout, of course. His offer list is a who’s who among Power 5 conferences, including Auburn, Georgia, Miami, Penn State, Maryland, Pittsburgh, UCLA, Minnesota, NC State, and Iowa State, as well as offers from schools like Rutgers and Boston College.
The strongest competition for White’s services will likely wind up being Penn State, as the Nittany Lions can lean on their tradition, close enough proximity to White’s hometown, and a strong history of pulling kids out of New York. Still, Syracuse is very much in it with White, and while it will be a difficult recruiting battle to win, the Orange are definitely strong contenders.
Landing White would give Syracuse one of its strongest offensive line classes in recent memory, and the first to feature a pair of 4-star talents. White’s recruitment will likely play out a little bit longer into the summer, but by all accounts he’s looking to decide prior to the start of his season (though, obviously, things in recruiting are fluid).
