Today is a glorious day. It took me awhile to discover the magic of Hard Knocks, but over the last few years it’s become one of my “can’t miss” TV viewing appointments. It’s right up there with Game of Thrones and Better Call Saul for me in terms of getting my eyeballs to the screen as quickly as possible. This year, Hard Knocks may very well be featuring one of our own: Cam Lynch.

With that in mind, welcome to #CamWatch2016. For the duration of Hard Knocks, I’m going to be writing about the goings-on of each episode, particularly as they pertain to former Syracuse linebacker Cam Lynch, a second year player for the Los Angeles Rams who earned his spot on the roster last year as an undrafted free agent.

Given Cam’s outgoing personality, and the good press he’s been getting lately, there’s a very solid chance that he’ll get some serious face-time on this season of Hard Knocks. Now, obviously there are bigger storylines. First, the move back to Los Angeles. Something tells me that’s going to be an awfully big focus.

Even bigger, no doubt, will be rookie quarterback Jared Goff. If you’re filming the first NFL team to play in Los Angeles in more than 20 years, and you’ve got the #1 overall draft pick, and you use it on a California native who played for the Cal Bears…well, it’s abundantly clear who the “star” of this year’s Hard Knocks is going to be.

But again, Cam Lynch should get some quality moments. For starters, he celebrated his birthday last week, during the first week of training camp. There’s obviously a chance that’ll get a mention on tonight’s premiere episode. In addition, as noted in the article I linked above, Cam was accepted into the master’s program at Newhouse. He’s a born communicator, who probably has a career as an analyst when his playing days are over. Basically, he’s going to be able to stand out whenever he gets on the screen.

The guy had his own “show” at Syracuse throughout his time with the Orange, in which he’d interview teammates. Don’t be surprised if HBO utilizes something similar here and there with the undersized linebacker and special teams ace. There’s also the fact that he’s a highly intelligent guy, having been recruited by Harvard and Cornell. And that thing about the Rams being back in Los Angeles? Yeah, both of Cam’s parents went to college in California.

Syracuse got some solid face-time with Marquis Spruill and Jerome Smith when the Falcons were the subject of Hard Knocks a couple years ago. Something tells me that you can expect to see quite a bit of Cam Lynch this time around. So with that in mind, let’s get started with #CamWatch2016. I’ll be posting recaps either after the show, or the following morning until this season is over in a few weeks.
