One of the big reasons that dunk contests have lost so much steam over the years is that at this point, it feels like we’ve seen every dunk there is to see. That, and the fact that the NBA dunk contest is filled with mediocre players and a lot of misses because guys can’t get their timing quite right. But just when you think you’ve seen every possible dunk, Syracuse University signee Tyler Lydon comes along with something that, as far as I’ve ever seen, is completely new.

Maybe some of you guys have seen this dunk before, but I can tell you that in my 34 years on this planet (not that I’ve spent much time on other planets), I’ve never seen this dunk performed. And in one quick, six second clip, Syracuse’s 6-foot-9 combination forward displays his shooting range and his extremely underrated athleticism. But enough from me – check it out for yourself.

Lydon is garnering a lot of buzz lately with his combination of size, skill, and athleticism. I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it: if he can get strong enough to handle the physicality of the ACC, watch out. He’s going to be a force to be reckoned with sooner rather than later.

LATE NOTE: I’m told that Louisville commit Donovan Mitchell pulled off this dunk a couple days ago. Well, let’s just pretend that never happened. All credit to Tyler Lydon, and you can’t convince me otherwise. Take that, Cardinal fans.
