Well, that was fast. It’s been literally 30 minutes since I posted about the immediate impact Chris Beatty seems to be having on Syracuse University’s football recruiting, and Kenneth Ruff was the first name I mentioned. And now, he has officially flipped his commitment from Virginia to the Orange.
Ruff is a 6-foot-1, 240 middle linebacker who hits like a freight train. He’s a big, strong, intimidating linebacker who seems tailor made to work in the middle of the Tampa 2 defense that new defensive coordinator Brian Ward likes to run. While he’s a big time hitter, he also shows some ability to drop back in coverage and make plays on the ball.
The 3-star linebacker also had offers from the likes of Clemson, North Carolina, South Carolina, NC State, and Georgia Tech, among others. Check out his highlights above to see a kid with some serious size who should be a threat to step in and contribute immediately next season. In addition to the impact the hiring of Beatty had on Ruff flipping, major kudos need to go out to Nick Monroe, the team’s new lead recruiter in Florida, for getting on Ruff this week.
