Dino Babers and the Syracuse staff tapped into Cass Tech last year when they landed inside linebacker Tim Walton, and now the connection is showing signs of becoming a genuine pipeline with the commitment of linebacker/defensive end prospect Zach Morton. Morton recently shined at The Opening, and is a 3-star talent.
Morton, who also boasts offers from Cincinnati, Iowa State, and Western Michigan, is a 6-foot-4, 220 pound player who reports a time of 4.66 in the 40, a fantastic time for a prospect who projects to play on the defensive line at the next level.
Morton has played some linebacker in high school and his closing speed is a testament to that, as he displays terrific athleticism and explosion off the line. He’s a long, rangy athlete who has the size and speed to develop into a force as a pass rusher at the next level, and shows a good ability to get his hands up and knock down passes at the line of scrimmage, as well.
This is now the fourth commitment in the class of 2017, and the second defensive commit alongside linebacker Isaiah McDuffie. The Orange also picked up commitments from quarterback Tommy DeVito and wide receiver Sharod Johnson last month.
