The Syracuse University basketball team recently missed out on a recruit by the name of Battle, but the Orange football team could win a Battle of its own with linebacker prospect Rashawn Battle. Battle released his top 5-ish list yesterday, and the Orange made the cut for the Pennsylvania native.
I say 5-ish not because I’m a fan of Fyvush Finkel, but because while Battle’s list was a top five there was an additional team (Old Dominion) vying for a spot in that quintet. Along with the Orange, Battle’s top five also included Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Boston College, and Indiana.
Battle also tweeted that he’s hoping to decide on a school before his season begins. The 6-foot-3, 205 pound* prospect from Wallenpaupack, Pennsylvania is a 3-star prospect and considered one of the top linebackers in his home state. Scout.com rated Battle as the No. 12 overall prospect in the class of 2016 in the Keystone state back at the end of February.
*Battle’s weight has been shown anywhere from 200 to 220. He’s projected to play OLB at the next level.
Right now the general feeling is that Rutgers might be the school to beat for Battle’s services, but it’s good news for Orange fans to see Syracuse make the cut on his top five. Orange fans could use some more good recruiting news as we head into the summer, and Battle is the kind of athlete who would make the Syracuse coaches and fans alike very, very happy by verbally committing.
